Bagno Vignoni lies along the Via Francigena, in the Val d'Orcia, a short distance from San Quirico d'Orcia and Pienza. The village stands out for its unique layout: instead of a central square, it has a large thermal water pool, surrounded by porticoes and stone houses, which has been the beating heart of the settlement since the Middle Ages.
Its warm waters, known since Roman times and frequented over the centuries by travelers and pilgrims bound for Rome, flow naturally and have shaped the life of the village, to the point of replacing the square with the pool itself as a gathering place. This peculiarity makes Bagno Vignoni immediately recognizable among Tuscan villages.
The visit unfolds at a leisurely pace, strolling around the pool and through the narrow lanes overlooking the surrounding countryside, with views stretching over the hills of the Val d'Orcia. Autumn and spring offer pleasant light and temperatures to appreciate both the village and the agricultural landscape around it, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
